Mark Wolodkowicz was born in Poland behind the Iron Curtain in 1960. In 1978, Poles celebrated the election of a Polish Pope. Mark was 18 years old. Hope of freedom for his country was on the horizon. On December 13, 1981 martial law began. Soldiers and police filled the streets as the communist regime fought back. By 1984, Mark was in a refugee camp in Italy.
